Visit Cabarrus celebrates county residents during 33rd annual National Travel & Tourism Week

CONCORD, NC (May 3, 2016) —The Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau is participating in America’s week-long celebration of travel by recognizing and rewarding the local community.

“On the nation’s official Travel Rally Day, we’re taking the opportunity to announce a new program designed to help residents become familiar with all of Cabarrus County’s lodging options located right here in our backyard,” said Donna Carpenter, President and CEO of the Cabarrus County CVB.

The “Book Friends & Family” or BFF program invites locals to drop in for information and tours of Cabarrus resort and hotel properties. Armed with details to help their BFFs book the perfect home away from home, participants can then register hotel confirmation numbers and be entered to win prize packages from the CCCVB. Stay tuned to VisitCabarrus.com for details and official launch date.

From family and friends to international travelers, tourism fuels the local economy and saved each Cabarrus County household $447 in 2014 as a result of taxes generated by visitor spending. More than 4,190 jobs and $87.06 million in payroll were directly attributable to travel and tourism.

“Local citizens are the pulse of our tourism industry, and their contributions deserve to be celebrated,” Carpenter adds.

In addition to the BFF Program, area hospitality professionals will be honored at the fourth annual Golden Helmet Awards during Celebrate Cabarrus on Friday, May 6th at Great Wolf Lodge. The GHAs recognize those who continuously make memorable experiences for visitors through exceptional service.

In its third year, Celebrate Cabarrus combines the CVB’s Golden Helmet Awards and annual awards for both the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce (www.cabarrus.biz) and Cabarrus Economic Development Corporation (www.cabarrusedc.com).
